Gary Thomas was our very first member at Hub Collaborative. Gary has many talents and skills that he shares with the community, and it is about time you knew about them too. It is a joy to have Gary on board with us, and if ever want to drop in and say “Hi” he is located in the far corner office.
1. Tell us about yourself.
I’m originally from Superior, Wisconsin and have lived in Minneapolis; the Phoenix area; Ames, Iowa; and here. Sheila and I have been married for over 21 years and we have two boys: Cameron (16) and Nathan (13). I’m a civil engineer by degree and a transportation engineer by experience.
2. Any random facts you would like to share with us?
I was a mascot at the University of Minnesota for a year. I stood at the Berlin Wall a few months before it came down. I am a certified ice hockey referee. I am a die-hard Gopher fan and Packer fan.
3. What do you like to do outside of The Hub?
Our boys keep me pretty busy with their activities (they both play hockey). But I play guitar and sing at FUMC-Bryan. I’ve appeared on stage in 12 productions over the past 6 years at The Theatre Company of BCS, StageCenter, and FUMC-Bryan. Some of my roles have included playing a gangster, a lawyer, a president, a tin man, and Jesus. I am also on the board of directors for The Theatre Company.
4. What is your favorite Mad Taco food item?
Favorite item on menu: Jerk pork taco. Favorite item no longer on menu: spicy tomato bisque.
5. What brought you to College Station and when?
My family moved to BCS in June of 2001 when I took a job as a research engineer with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. I worked there until June of 2015.
6. What company are you apart of? What is your role?
I’m a senior engineer with Armstrong Forensic Engineers. I investigate and reconstruct traffic accidents and provide expert testimony services for clients.
7. What is your favorite part of working from The Hub?
The fun and casual atmosphere.
8. What can others at The Hub ask you about?
Personal finance, basic web design, photography
Thank you so much for sharing, Gary! We have loved getting to know you and your family over the last seven months! (And you know how I feel about the Spicy Tomato Bisque, and my dream of growing up to be a mascot.)
